Alzheimer’s & Dementia

Here are a few important facts about Grandview Palms Alzheimer’s and Dementia Suites:

  • Grandview Palms Alzheimer’s and Dementia wing is made up of 23 units (46 residents).
  • All units will be semi-private. There for Grandview Palms can accommodate 46 residents.
  • Completely furnished. All rooms will have low-height beds, which go down approximately to 71/2 inches above the ground.
  • No nurses’ stations. Our philosophy is to have maximum contact and interaction with residents through 24-hour a day contact. This interaction is intended to increase the resident activities.
  • Memory enhancements:
    • Each door has 2 memory boxes (one for each resident). These shall include items that the resident, along with family members select from their past. These boxes are designed to enhance memories / minimize frustration.
    • Four sections / color coordinated to enhance memory and limit frustration.
  • A living room for each section – ” family environment.”
  • Common dining room for every 2 sections. The idea is to minimize institutional feel. Each dining area will include a “Country Kitchen.”
  • Distraction devices to minimize agitation commonly associated with Alzheimer’s disease. (e.g. slot machines).
  • Quiet rooms for those times where a little privacy is necessary.
  • “Eden experience” – pets throughout.
  • 3 distinct walking paths. The first one is on the outside of the building. This path will be secured by an 8 foot wall. The second is the interior hallways. And the third is an interior courtyard which can be entered or exited through a number of doors.
  • Full security on all points of ingress / egress.
  • Natural lighting to limit the effects of “sundowners syndrome.”
